Licenced Trapper Course: March 16-17 & 30-31, 2019
Will be held in the Kijicho Manito Madaouskarini First Nation workshop space, 24 Flint Ave, Bancroft, ON.
This 40 hour course teaches the theory and practical requirements to get a trapping licence.
Dates & Times:
- March 16th – 7:30 am sharp to 6:00 pm – Theory
- March 17th – 8:00 am to 6:00 pm – Theory
- March 30th – 8:00 am to 6:00 pm – each participant will skin & stretch 1 beaver and 1 muskrat (animals supplied by Mike)
- March 31st – 8:00 am to 6:00 pm – trap demonstration in the field
Licencing test (50 multiple choice questions) will be administered after the trap demonstrations. Licence will be issued, by Mike, once the participants have successfully passed the test.
BE ON TIME FOR ALL CLASSES as licencing requires the successful completion of the full 40 hour course.
** NOTE: Bring your lunch with you as there is only a short break for lunch

About the Teacher:
Mike Pecarskie has been trapping for over 50 years. He learned to trap with his father as a very young boy and was doing most of the skinning himself by the age of 10. He became a licensed Trapping Course Instructor through the Ontario Fur Managers Federation 20 years ago. Mike operates 2 trap lines (one in Barry’s Bay and one in northern Ontario) and regularly participates in trapping competitions. He recently returned from the Fur Harvesters Auction in North Bay with 23 plaques and his son, James, who works with him closely, won the Overall Top Fur Handler. Mike lives on his family’s homestead in Barry’s Bay, Ontario.
